I have a subordinate who goes behind my back to discuss my
credit decisions with my manager when she disagrees with my instructions.
What is the best way to deal with this?
Answer: Head on. Confront
your subordinate and tell her that you do not want her going behind your
back to your boss. Hopefully, your manager is backing your decisions
- and if she is not then that is a different matter. I would also address
this with problem with your manner. I recommend that you explain that
when they discuss the credit decisions you make with your subordinates
that your manager is undermining your authority. Suggest that when your
subordinates come knocking that he invite you to join the discussion
as a way to discourage this inappropriate behavior.
