What do you think of restocking fees on merchandise returns?
Answer: I think they are
a good idea. I think they reduce the number of returns customers take. I
also know from experience that if the customer does not agree in advance
and in writing to whatever restocking fee your company charges then the customer
is likely to deduct for the full value of the return and that the collection
department will, once again, be asked to clean up the mess. For this reason,
I would encourage you to make certain that your return policy is documented
on your credit application, on your invoice terms and conditions and in any
contracts between your company and your customers.
